Starlink is illegal in South Africa

Telecommunications industry regulator Icasa has warned that using or providing access to SpaceX’s Starlink services in South Africa is illegal.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) issued its warning through an official notice published in the Government Gazette on Tuesday.

So you think the South African government is more a more trustworthy party to look after your data than Elon Musk?
Here is the thing though, if you are using Starlink with any modern browser and website that uses HTTPS, there isn't any way for anyone to know what the pages you are visiting are showing you. The only thing they have is the address of the HTTP requests. So they can see the site you are visiting, but not the content. This is the same with emails, and VOIP calls. And if you are paranoid, just use a vpn, which encrypts all traffic.

Compared to SMS and regular phone calls, which I think have dubious encryption at best.
