Hi all.
I was wondering, now I probally have it all wrong but you guys tell me.
All this new pricing for 1 Nov by Telkom comes from complaints and investigations by ICASA into Telkom.

Now if Telkom has proceed to change all the pricing etc for adsl, I can't help but to think we are now WORSE off, then before all the complaints etc.

So now i'm wondering when ICASA's "improvements " is going to come through ??
LIke no or lower line rental etc ??

Like i said maby i have it all wrong ??

I think you are partly right, though it seems that Telkom with their buddy The Department of Communications are way to strong for ICASA.
ICASA came up with the "no line rental" and suddenly Telkom throw them a new curve ball - per usage billing, which will make them even more money.

Let's hope the DOTCO thing gets somewhere than maybe we can breath for a while - that is until Telkom come up with a new scheme.

ICASA can't do a darn thing. Why do you think that it took a high court case to pause Telkom's Per GB Billing System ?

Tsk !!!

Sheez this is bloody stupid !! what do they do then ?? Regulate John Woo that wants to put up his own wan ??

How much will it cost to get a consortium get a "tele com" satelite and get our own banddwith ?/

I really don't think "diplomatic way" is going to solve this problem !!

WARNING Conspiracy theory ahead ;-)

C'mon guys, what do you think Telkom and ICASA were doing in their private meeting after the Telkom made a fuss over the draft regulations?

Telkom made a huge fuss directly after the release of the draft, had a private meeting with Icasa, then went quiet!

I can just imagine what was said in that meeting;

ICASA: Don't worry about it Telkom we have it all figured out already; we released the draft to shut them[US] up for a while, now you go ahead and increase bandwidth prices to your hearts content! As soon as anyone complains blame it on SAIX, who aren't regulated by us, and they [US] can't do anything about it!

Telkom(Spit flying everywhere and drooling): Yeah, yeah that will work, yeah more money! Yeah!

Anyway just my point of view... :o

Per usage billing PLUS line rental...
True, in all the confusion about the per usage billing the line rental must have slipped my mind:)

you know.. they could just do that.. abolish line rental and then say we don't provide bandwith saix does and rake in more money than ever while still looking good
