Hi
I get an error, Socket Error #10061, Connection Refused when trying to start up iConnect for the first time.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Theo

My personal user experience is I've not found IConnect that reliable, and get that error sometimes. I prefer using UTTraceStar.
Remember to switch your firewall off, that's been the solution to most of my problems when using this software.

Though hopefully someone else will enlighten us on how to resolve that "socket" error message. Have a look in the IConnect sticky

tried using the UtraceStar, but no luck. It doesn't pick up the fact that I have a USB desktop modem. No firewall.
Please help

i also have a problem connecting to my modem with those apps, all of them infact so its a problem on my system.. but I have no idea what.

Could James or Seburn or someone help, now that there is a thread anyway?

What is the right way to set it up, should you connect to the Iburst network before using it or muct it stay unconnected so that the app connects through it??
I just always get the "UTD IP" problem in UTTracestar. the it apparently will automatically fix the problem, and I must restart the modem, but it comes back with the exact same error.

So what should the IP setting for your UTD ethernet connection be in TCP/IP properties, automatic?

Make sure u have the .NET 1.1 Framework installed especially on UT Tracestar.I think iConnect is the same but have'nt installed it for a while now so iam not 100% sure.

I know, I have that dont worry, the program doesnt start up without it, so its not that for either of us.

Taken from http://www.uttracestar.co.za/FAQ.php:
How do I set the IP address manually?

1. Win2k or Win98:
Right click network Neighbourhood (on the desktop)
WinXp:
Right click My Network Places (on the desktop) or click start->connect to->show all connections
2. Click properties
3. Right click the LAN connection that the iburst is connected to (for USB a new one has been created with iburst in the name
4. Click properties
5. Click on TCP/IP from the list
6. Click properties
7. Select static address
8. Type in 192.168.250.1 for ip address
9. Type in 255.255.255.0 for subnet mask
10. Click ok until all windows close
11. Switch off UTD, wait 5 seconds and switch back on

thanks alot man. Now I see the problem. But it apparently auto fixes it and does nothing, doesnt change the IP at all, I guess that feature is broken atm..

Sorry that I never just went to the FAQ on the site btw, just lazy I guess.

thanks for that info! I can now use utTraceStar and I have been able to re-position my external antenna to get excellent coverage, in stead of poor to very poor. Can you believe it, in Vorna Valley, but Illovo tower is the where I get best (9/10) signal!

Yeah sorry I did also post in the utTraceStar thread a few times about being busy fixing that stupid wizard.
I am trying a completely different approach.
It seems that sometimes windows doesn't like the registry changes, and doesn't work. I cannot replicate the problem as under all circumstanses it works for me.

The new method doesn't use the registry so should not have the old problems, but I have so little time these days so its going very slowly.

Thank you for your support ;)

I just wanted to say that you should be able to get it working with the firewall on. You need to make a rule for utTraceStar to enable access.

In zonealarm under programs make sure uttracestar has access to Trusted and Internet.

In Nortons Click personal firewall then configure under program control uttracestar click permit all.

Well thats if I remember correctly.

Firewalls have a reason to be there I would much prefer everyone is safe rather than sorry.
