Why ID number

When applying for an iBurst contract, your ID number is required for credit the credit vetting process. Both TransUnion and Experian (the two main credit buro's in SA) requires a Physical address and ID number of the party on which a credit check needs to done for. (National Credit Regulator requirement).

I won't even allow my bank to make a copy of my ID. It's for identification - I stand at the counter, they compare my ID Photo to me, and I'm identified.

That's good enough.

Why must I have all my banking details and a photocopy of my ID details lying around for all to see, or are banks clerks notoriously honest ...

Yes I'm sure. I guess you're testiment to the fact that if you keep telling youself even the biggest load of bull, you eventually start to believe it

Explain to me how such a law would make any difference to criminals? They'd simply use a fake/stolen ID to get their kit and honest people would have lost their privacy for nothing.
