I am considering getting this keyboard. I would like to know if anyone has it, and what its like. Most importantly what is it like for FPS gaming? Does the gaming pad feel natural etc?

Also another thing that appeals to me on a KB is soft keys, I hate "clangly" keys...Most KB's, or at least the cheaper ones start out all soft and silent but get clangy and loud after some use. What are the keys like on it?

Lastly does anyone know where I can this in store?

I'm using a Ideazon Fang... which is basicaly the gamepad version of the Merc.. Paid 200 bucks for it and it work like the bomb

Grimspoon, I use exactly what you intend buying. The gamepad is really good (you play COD4 if I remember correctly, sure I saw you on some of the servers - rooters the noob here :)?) but, if you need to do a lot of typing, I find the keys too close to each other, and the lack of cursor keys for the right hand (they are integrated with the numerics on the far right) is sometimes a pain when you want to navigate through docs & spreadsheets.

If I need to do work that requires typing I usually plug the good old Microsoft keyboard in, nothing beats it for typing IMO.

I wanted to buy the standalone Ideazon Merc gamepad, but BT games in East Rand Mall was outta stock at the time, I would recommend getting just the gamepad and combine it with your favorite keyboard. Would also be less costly.

Hope this helps, Rudi

Hey Rudi, shot for the reply.......Yip I am often on the servers shooting everything that moves. COD4 is without doubt my favorite game ;)

The good news is that I actually went after work and bought the keyboard, I am a man of impulse and decided to act on it, hehe.

I must say I am rather impressed with this kb so far. It is very well made and solid as a rock. I just had a game of COD4 on the TDM server and score 69 - 29, so its deffinately not hampering my playing, hehe.

All good so far, I am a happy customer. I do see what you are saying about the typing, I don't type to much so its ok, but I am getting used to it. Keen to see how the game pad works out in games like dota. Might need some work on that ;)

David, just played a game with you on COD4 on TDM, you really know what you are doing! The gamepad is excellent, but unfortunately helps little for a noob like me! Do you have any tips for a noob? Btw, is there not a local sever for beginners like me?

LOL, thanks.

It just takes practice hey ;)

Problem is I get shot to pieces but just about every man and his dog (gun), have been trying for almost 6 months now. Its just this game is so addictive, I cannot let it be and make peace that I suck :)

Have tried a newbie server in the UK, but the ping is so high that even the noobs there kick my a$$ all the time :(

Yeah, don't even bother playing on high ping servers, you will get owned even if you are the best player in the world.

Best thing to do is to play smart, anticipation for me is the key, I always am expecting someone around the corner, that way my finger is always on that trigger.. :D

So after spending Friday night and Saturday with my Merc Stealth gaming, Sunday I needed to get some work done. . . That is when things went really pear shaped.

I was at the point where I wanted to throw this KB out the window. . .

One minute I need the num pad to input some numbers, the next I need to use the delete key, but you can’t use both so you end up turning num lock off 20 times to choose which you want. the keys were also starting to grate me. As Rudi mentioned there is just not enough space to type.

On the up side it is a really well built KB and fantastic for gaming, and that’s it. If you ever plan on doing anything else on this board, it is going to drive you nuts. Typing is rather painful and finding your way around it after being used to a “normal” layout KB can get tedious.

So after much consideration I took it back to the shop and I swapped it for a Logitech G15, a couple of bob more, but what the hell, I have Logitech stuff already and it’s been great so I decided to go for it. It’s not as good for FPS I guess as the Merc was, but at least I have my num pad and del keys back to where they should be :D

Yeah it is a really good gaming board, but just fails on some basic functionality unfortunately.
