I have a host of MP3 files names Track01, etc etc. I know Shazam identifies music using some unique audio signature, and is almost always spot on. But listening to each song is extremely time consuming. I am looking for an application that can open MP3 files, and compare it to a database on the Internet and then rename the file automatically. Surely something like this exists? I have tried a few, like MusicBrainz Picard, MusicMonkey, etc etc, and none of them work. Has anyone found something that actually works?

If it is international artists it should pick up the tags. It mostly struggles with local SA music.

Based on what though? If you have a song called track1.mp3 with no tags - how is it going to lookup something. You will need to search for the song but if you don't know what its called then you are stuffed.

Many times the audioripper adds the tags but the "rippee" is too lazy to name the files or does not know how to enable the correct file naming function, hence it defaults to track01, track02, etc.

I copied some stuff from someone, and lots of Various, or Track or Unnamed type of files. No tags or anything. If it had tags, it would have been much easier.

Sony Media Go --> http://mediago.sony.com/enu/features (uses Gracenote) or Musicbrainz Picard otherwise upload it to Google Play Music (also gracenote). If you use Windows 10 you can use Groove music (also uses gracenote) but for some stupid reason MS doesn't let you save to file the new tags it downloaded.

Might just be easier to "reacquire" the files otherwise it would mean listening to each file trying to ID it - could take months.

generally i have found that windows media player can update the media info for you, i.e rename the songs.. provided that the tracks still have metadata i am guessing.. has worked for me in the past.. simply add the folder to your music library in windows media player and it should automatically attempt to update the tracks, if your settings are set to do so..

I'll try the Sony one. Musicbrainz did not work.

Probably just ripped stuff, no meta data. :(

id still give media player a try.. only input from your end is adding the folder into the library, it should then do the rest.. minimal work..!

These apps take time to identify the tunes. It would take ages just to do 10 songs.

You would also need to interact with the app somehow. They would have to have a published API.
