I have found out that Cell C Hands out/Swop client SIM Cards left right and centre to any body claiming to be a client. My SIM Card was swopped by someone unknown and Cell C who actioned the swop forgot to to authenticate the
person in front of them was actually their client! The R150 they charged meant more than protecting their customer who faithfully pays their bills every month.

Make a complaint to the National Consumer Commission. Email: [email protected], We need to start making big corporates responsible. By complaining we as consumers have the power to keep them responsible and accountable and force them to step up their safety controls. You should go back to them and request documentation presented with this SIM Swop. If they refuse go to a attorney to request them to release it by quoting The Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (Act No. 2 of 2000)

Hmm glad I am not a Cell C customer. This is shocking from a company the size of Cell C. I suppose this is what happens when you put people who don't care in a retail position who cba to follow protocol.

Swift action should be taken against those who pull stunts like this.

doesn't that mean now that Cell C has violated RICA and they can be held criminally responsible (well the manager of the outlet)?

I had a similar experience as above, but must tell you all, do not expect any help from Cell C. They hide behind that it might compromise their investigation etc. therefore they cannot give any details or show you any documentation. The next hurdle is when you complain to ICASA and NCC, they issue you with case numbers and then that is it. We are lulled into a false sense of security, that there is measures put in place to protect us if corporates do not tow the line.

When I renewed my contract I had to go through telephonic security questions, proof of address, green bar coded ID, had to show my Drivers licence to verify my signature.

But when an unknown person walked into a Cell C shop and claimed to be me the service was excellent! All that was needed was to say they lost their cell phone and a new SIM Card was issued. Whooossshh there goes my SIM Card in a wink.
