The SA Democratic Students Movement on Friday called on the home affairs department to visit schools to register pupils for identity documents.

"We believe that if the department acted early and implemented this, it will curb all this complications of IDs challenging the [matriculants]," secretary general Sizwe Simelane said in a statement.

He said it became a problem for pupils to further their studies after matric if they did not have IDs.

Sadesmo had been receiving reports of matric pupils who did not have IDs.

"We appeal that the department of home affairs should play its role in helping out the pupils, so to enable their studies for their future."

He urged the department to make the application process easier for pupils in schools.

um, why can't they wait in line like everybody else? Lazy brats!
DHA is busy enough as it is with all the people switching over to the new cards - if they can come to the school and sort it out en masse then I say go for it, especially if it means they don't miss out on a day of schooling.
