Would this mean that, hosting your site locally, you would get more bandwidth than we currently do? Or are these two not related?

Unlikely because your hosting company would still be accessed internationally and thus would still be paying for the international bandwidth it serves

even if the international access will always be a minimum? like "south african male (used and new) underpants emporium" wont get a lot of hits from overseas i think. neither would most of the e-commerce sites, since its crazy shipping goods overseas.

I would welcome bandwidth locally being uncapped on hosting sites. I won't mind paying for the international bandwidth AT ALL

hehehe, i know, i was just thinking about it myself. somehow your hosting company should be able to pass on the saving of uncapped local access to the clients.

so you might have say 5GB of traffic allowance, but local does not count towards this. because it would be silly charging you for free traffic right? or can hosting companies still charge whatever they feel like (if local was uncapped)?

Maybe hosting companies will start to offer local only hosting then?

Thats not always a good idea. Coz doesnt 3g type internet surfers not actually count as local or something. Coz they don't actually see a difference between local and int. So, I'm assuming, that they are routed to satellite, and somehow are lost in translation?
