Our wireless companies in South Africa also have their head up their _ _ _ !

Imagine how many customers they could have stolen from Telkom and Vodacom, if they offered a decant package.

A 512 with a 3 gig cap with Telkom sets you back +/- R800.00. Now image Sentech or iBurst offered that same package for +/- R400.00. Half that price. They would probably double their user base with in a month.

The unreliability of the service probably evens out with the cost (if offered at that price).

How many people would move if something like that had to come about? I know I would!

The problem with moving is that if you go wireless or ADSL, you sort of lock yourself in due to the investment in the equipment you need.

What about a Wireless Company that gives you 192k for R699 per month with no cap?

That's what I have and believe me, I'm as happy as can be.

Telkom will never get another 1c out of me. If their service is uncapped, yes, then I will think about it.

But then it must be at least 1024 for R700, ISP costs included.

Why are people always so cautious to give out their WISP's names? What are you using Piesang, sounds good. And many people are happy with wireles (ie. myself) and the coverage areas are huge in most cities.
Now what beperks (limits) their prices are the high telkom rates for bandwidth or more expensive and slower sattelite alternative.
With Iburst you can get a 1mb line with a 3gig cap and 64kb soft cap speeds that are sometime faster that 64... for R600, thats R200 cheaper, still pretty good and never really goes down probably less than DSl does for me anyway.

And for online gaming it'll suck. :(

Right now, I'll risk it. Anyone have any experience with WoW over something non-Telkom? Care to post your latency and packet-loss experiences?

Some people use Iburst for WoW and even battlefield after they are capped. So atleast gaming will never be restricted, however you do need a good connection and even so latency will be high and could have occasional packet loss. Personally on my connection with iburst, not the best coverage in my area, (Joburg and Pretoria are much better covered than cape town) I cant play online at all, not even local warcraft for dota, but a friend of mine can, and he lives a block away from me. So just test the service first, other peoples experiences might not hold true for you.

Ive seen a few people go as far as playing cs on wireless. Their latency is pretty decent half the time... Let me not speak about the other half tho

but what I can not seem to understand... why have they not taken on Telkom in this arena when it comes to broadband. Its beyond me???

Well they are trying to take on telkom, who else do you think they are trying to take on, there is noone else. There are about 30000 wireless users that arent Telkom broadband users becuase of wireless.
