Does it default to prepaid or default to being renewed?

Basically, do I need to tell them that I want to be prepaid when my contract is over?

Yes or you will continue your contract on a month to month basis

As Nimz said it will just continue on a month-to-month basis, automatic renewal I think is illegal anyway.

You also have to phone early as it must be a months notice.

Some say not more than 3 months notice, some say 3 months notice

I just know I had to give a months notice otherwise I would have been charged an extra month.

If your contract expires Feb 28 and you phone them in Feb to tell them you not renewing it and want it converted back to prepaid you will get charged for March.

If you on MTN then it is 1 month notice and then you have to tell them to convert it to prepaid.

It defaults to month to month contract.

If you want to go down to prepaid you need to request it.

Vodacom requested a letter or a call to cancellations before the 15th of the month. You have to request to be moved to prepaid.
