Hi Guys,

Got a problem trying to access my IIS server externally.

It works perfectly when accessing locally but when I try from outside my network I get an error "...Access to this server has been denied!..." and for the life of me I just can't seem to figure out why.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Obvious question, but did you open the site up to external IP addresses?

Very obvious question... the hard part is where on earth is that setting... Personally im a fan of apache but this program I require only runs on IIS, which is the most confusing thing ever

Which version of IIS are you running? Is it configured as a website or virtual website?

Select the website, scroll down and open the IP Address and Domain Restrictions option. Select Add Allow Entry and add an IP range.

Don't forget to open up your firewall to forward requests to the web server. Some details about that here: http://forums.iis.net/t/1173923.aspx

Also check the IIS log and Windows logs and see which HTTP error you're getting. This should help troubleshoot a bit better.

Can't find the restrictions options... but managed to access it via SSL so I guess I was getting blocked from mweb and not my server on normal http

Ah that would make sense, didn't know that you were with Mweb. They block inbound HTTP requests by default. Log on to your account from their website, go to My Account, select ADSL, scroll down to Protected Access and disable it.

According to their site:
Protected Access will prevent the following:

Incoming Web (HTTP) connections.
Incoming "Telnet" connections that are used for remote access to your PC.
Incoming connections via commonly hacked channels (ports 254 and 255).
