PRETORIA – The Tshwane Metro Police have confirmed that they're aware of illegal microdotting taking place at the Waltloo Testing Station in Pretoria after Eyewitness News investigated the practice.

In terms of new vehicle legislation, a vehicle must be microdotted before a police clearance certificate is issued on a re-registered vehicle.

The process sees near-microscopic dots containing verification information being sprayed onto a key location on the vehicle by illegal vendors.

The police’s Isaac Mahamba says they are aware of the practice and are investigating.

But he urged the public not to use the services of these conmen.

“People need to ensure they go inside the building so they can get proper help.”

There are dozens of conmen known as runners who are not employees at the Waltloo Testing Station, but for a fee can help arrange anything.

It took Eyewitness News just minutes to locate these illegal service providers.

The investigation led to a man in the parking lot who runs the operation from the boot of his car and is offering the service for R500.

The fraudulent certificate is then presented to officials at the police clearance section.

Mahamba said authorities expect to make arrests soon.
