I paid a couple of thousand rands to Well known Patent attorneys here in Pretoria-to evaluate my patent and to write a comment or Opinion as they call it.
After i paid for several translations and had to draft the differences myself and give my own opinion to them as why it differs from the international foreign patent applications -they wrote me an OPINION -3 LINES hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Saying nothing at all
and charged me another R3000
Up to this moment the big banks are busy stealing my Patent bit by bit
So dont waste your time AND money-They will patent anything you ask but its worthless unless you have millions to defend your patent in court

True, but remember that software doesnt last forever, so the limited monopoly that ones gains from a patent may actually pay off in the long run.

Just quickly to confirm what he is saying though, if you patent it, it becomes public knowledge, and when it eventually runs out, its in the public domain and anyone can use it, whereas if you keep it a secret and they cant work out how to make it (eg coke), it should stay a secret.

Good attorneys - Spoor Fischer. Dr Owen Dean is one of the Authority's of IP law in SA, not sure if they are in CT though, probably should be.

Oh ya one more thing, if you are worried about copyright and not patenting, then just remember that if your software that you created complies with the requirements of the copyright act, it is automatically copyrighted and therefore anyone that copies the code or software is commiting copyright infringement and you can sue. The only problem there would be to prove its your code, and not theirs.
