Hi.

Im looking for a nice uncapped adsl account is there anyone here who could offer some good pointers as to where i should go. I am using a 512 adslwith webafrica 6 gig p/m as my isp. I cannot take this being capped business any more.:sick::sick: I live in the south of johannessburg if that is relavent.

I play games all the time, warcraft, tf2, l4d, blah blah blah. At the moment my pings in steam games are just under 100. i would like that to be lower. My ping in wow is about 600 - 800. I would very much like that to be lower. Im not bothered about http speeds or p2p throttling and all that. I just want nice latency in my games.

I have read a few posts in here and didn't find anything that helped me. Please could someone give me some decent information about what service provider would be good for me. Or at least tell me about their experiences with theirs. There are a lot of isp's offering uncapped at the moment and im not sure what to go for. Is there anyone who has uncapped for more or less under 800 bucks a month that plays a lot of games and has decent ping.

Thanks in advance.

P.s. Please dont reply with a bunch of links to wikkis and forums about how capping and shaping works and blah blah blah. I want someone using an isp for what i intend to use mine for and has nice latency + all round service. :D

Thanks in advance again.

Actually you want to have it LOWER.. ;-)

What is your budget like ?
512 vs 4096.. like R100 difference, but the line speed does not matter for pings, unless its a bandwidth hungry game (maybe downgrade, and check - and upgrade and check.. down costs some $$)
MWEB has been the high scorer thus far, with webafrica platinum and then axxess and then afrihost following the ranks

Uncapped and lower international latency are not very good friends right now.

Have you though of buying an uncapped account, and then buying a local-only account for playing local online games as you need, and then buying a web-africa account for international games as you need?

my budget is around 600 or under if possible. at the moment im paying about 500 p/m.

I am a major WoW player and run my own raiding guild on the european servers. Trust me when I say that WebAfrica is the ISP you want. Granted that it is not uncapped but the simple prepaid service of R69/month gives me 350ms ping. Sometimes 250ms.

I buy my bw for gaming as and when I need it. WebAfrica is the sh|te baby!

kk lol thx was epic np gtg

seriously though thanks for this post. bu the looks of things uncapped adsl is pretty reasonably priced but very badly shaped. uncapped and unshaped is 2000+ a month. not cool.

On Counterstrike Source , my 384 got a ping of roughly 34 odd, Battlefield Bad Company 2 roughly 120 odd, and my Rappelz (US based server) getting 400+ ms
Using my 4096 CSS is 14 and BFBC2 = <90,Rappelz 200++
That said, I have signed up with a piss poor ISP which throttles me to hell *(Vox DataPro) - but yet their gaming latencies are excellent all the time.
I am cancelling though, because it took me 16 hours to download a 700MB Linux ISO.

I'm with MWEB uncapped (512kb/s shaped) and I play a lot of online games, including WoW.

MWEB handles pretty well for me, I only have some problems when people browse a lot while I'm playing, the latency spikes but other than that its quite good.

I have used MWEB for my weekly raid bosses and I get around 500ms to 600ms in the raids with no DCs yet. However I have a 1GB prepaid account with webafrica that I use when I do ICC 10/25, it performs far better than MWEB offering 300ms to 500ms.

MWEB is perfect for doing your heroics and quests with though, I download with half my line speed while I'm doing my dailies with no issues.

Im on WA and i can ping local servers in CMD with a response time of about 11/12ms and ingame i get about 25/35 ping in dota, 45/65 ping in hon, 20/50 ping in CSS...

Really not worried about moving to another ISP as WA does NOT oversubscribe and have decent contention ratios etc etc. Only lag occasionally in hon, but that is because the SAIX / IS / igame server is lagging, and not WA.

Really if you looking to game, go for WA or SAIX... if you have some extra bucks you can always get a internationally unshapped account from either of them, but i really dont think its needed.

Have you ever tried to change you router, as sometimes old\semi faulty routers can make gaming / ping quite bad!

thanks for all the info so far.

will give this a try as i am currently with webafrica and my pings are usually around 100. thanks.

Thanks for all the input so far.

I have basically narrowed it down to either MWEB or AFRIHOST. As i dont like the sound of the '10 day rolling period'.

I am going for the 512 uncapped option. Are there any users here (thank you D34M0n7 i did see your post) who are using either of these ?? Can you tell me what the service/latency is like ??

The perfect middle ground is the open wen GOLD uncapped accounts.

Well I have been using MWEB shapped for a while now

international latency to Europe seems to be between 300 and 400 ms on average
slightly more to America

but on average well below 500ms to just about anywhere
