Short version:

Client has Outlook 2003, retrieves mail via dial-up pop account from telkomsa.net.

On send and receive AVG shows incoming mail being checked.

Nothing appears in the inbox !

I have checked all the possible views.
I have removed AVG - still no mail.
There are no rules or filters
I have run Spybot, complete avg scan etc - all clean. Nothing in virus results or virus vault.

I have removed Office Suite and reinstalled.
I have set up a clean new pst file - avg shows mail coming in - Outlook folder size says 0 for every folder.

Here's the kick - if I check in Outlook Express the mail arrives - perhaps 1 mail out of 10 is legitimate, the other have a subject in what appears to be Russian or some strange alphabet. The body includes an image - in the same language.

Regardless of the strange mails - why would the incoming mail completely vanish but Outlook Express can download it and it remains visible.

I cannot find a single reference on Google.

Truly baffled.

have u tried uninstalling AVG

i know thats more than likely not the problem but you never know

have u tried pulling the mail down on a different program like thunderbird?

have u installed and reinstalled outlook?

try outlook express

try thunderbird

uninstall avg

if problems persists reload entire pc from scratch

well try thunderbird and then u blame dumbass microsoft :)

sometimes things happen in windows that you never find the answer to :) reloading always cures the problem though

ok stupid question but you checked the mail while avg was not installed right?

try thunderbird before installing windows again

if you do install windows make sure its a totally formatted drive

Yes - no difference. They disappear in Outlook but show in Express....

Just surprised that it seems a unique problem - according to the lack of anything on Google.

Check the following options in Outlook 2003:

Actions -> Junk E-Mail -> Junk Mail Options
1) Level = Low
2) Untick "Permanently delete suspected e-mail ..."

A shot in the dark but if you mail is showing in one and not the other (ie. you want it in Outlook but the mail is appearing in Outlook express) when AVG is installed make sure that Outlook is setup as your default mail program as AVG might be sending it to Outlook Express instead of Outlook.

Genius !

Thank you !

I uninstalled Outlook completely and removed all the pst files then reinstalled.
How on earth did the reinstall set the highest junk mail level and permanently delete as default ?
