I am looking to go for wireless. I will use the connection for sufring, chat programs, msn and downloading music peer to peer (+- 2 gigs per month), email and oh the mother in law like gambling on piggs peek + i need the 24hr connection.

My current acount is around R400 - R500 including isp.

Can someone pls recommend something for me or any advice will be greatl.
Pls dont answer in technical lingo as i am still new to this
THanks

While currently The 192K DSL and Standard 3gb account will cost roughly R500 - R550

I would wait till the new pricings for november have been published as rumour has it a whole new pricing setup is in the pipeline.

Wireless at the moment won't be better if u need full 24 hour connection, and it would be real bad if ure Gambling online and tehn the connection drops cuz of bad signal.....

hmm... yeah and CD shops charging 269 rand for any imported disc isnt a crime?

there's nothing cool about 60% markup on goods that are already way too expensive for us. Why should the rich be the only ones privileged to hear the music they want to?

I buy about 2 original cd's a month but I listen to about another 10 that I download because I cant afford to buy them and I love the music.

lol well if you dont support telkom your cutting you nose off to spit your face

one person not getting adsl isnt gonna kill the network

well go with sentech or iburst but:

no p2p
sentech is like have 28800 modem
iburst is good when it works, they said that a cm change in direction fixes everything

your choice pay through your arse for a slow connection that is expensive
or pay a somewhat over priced for a solid 24 hour connection me thinks

o and dovi i agree with the above statement

if the music, games and dvd price where lower they would sell more copies which would make up for the cheaper price so they wouldnt loose anything, they might actually make more.

pirating is a good thing, show all these ppl who rip us off that we will not accept it.

i refuse to pay 149 for a cd thats just a rip off

if cd's where 50 or 60 rand they would sell so many but they make more charging more.

my motto is if they wanna rip me off ima rip them off but downloading it for free

I agree completely.

Deciding: If you want to game the ADSL 192 + cheap 2Gg/3Gb cap will set you back ~R400 a month + line. If you definitely want wireless then I'd suggest starting with iBurst 1Gb package, but consider you'll probably be tied into a contract for 24 months, or you have to fork out heavily for a modem (~R1600 as opposed to R500 for ADSL)

ADSL prices will come down - and when derugulation finally comes you hardware will still be usable. All the Wireless networks - even the "Cell" ones use unique technology and you'll struggle to switch.

On the music issue why buy stuff illegally when you can download it 100% legal (by Russian law at least) for ~$1.50 per album from allofmp3 . . . ..

its sad, but - you dont have a choice at the moment buddy - love it or hate it telkom is still the safest bet.

and yes, the cd stores are doing the same thing telkom is - ripping off the consumer - and therefore the same thing happens to them - with telkom, people create local only torrent sites and transfer hundreds of gigs of traffic, and the cd stores - well - guess most of the traffic in the abovementioned example happens to be mp3.

support your local artists though - I mean it. Go to the shows, buy the t-shirts and the crappily produced cds they sell - its the only way we can encourage people here to eventually make good music.
