I've found a nice dentist here, fixing 2 decays and getting veneers... or thinking about it (seriously enough to have gone for the first consultation)

Its going to cost about R50 000 to do and I'll be able to pay it off even though my debt would have to wait in line a bit.

Its going to be a birthday gift for myself. Getting 6 veneers and whitening and I'm not sure how its going to look like, but from what I've seen it would look awesome.

I'm just struggling now with if I should do it or not (I'm scared, dont know/ask why)

Oh, and the method the doc is going to use has no damage to my teeth except for making them a big rough.

What do you guys think? do anyone have veneers? did you regret it?

Wanted to get a hair transplant but the cheapest would be R85k... think I might do that next year to make my hair more dense as it's thinning at the top

lol, yes and no ;) I figured I have the means an ability to change my "outer self" the way I want/feel I look like in my inner self.

One reflecting the other.

All in a build up for my 30th birtdhay in 2 years :)

Already went for lasik...

No sarcasm (seriously), good luck with everything u wanna do, hope it works out.

Thanks man :) it's better than sitting infront of the TV and playing XBox all day :) Gives me something to do.

Happiness does not come with acquiring what you desire but rather being content with what you have ...

And even though I like myself in my own mind and I've been told time and time again I've got the character and personality anyone would love/like. I want to see what is reflected in the mirror and my own mind. I'm not sure it will bring me happiness, but it will make myself feel better that I now both reflect the way I feel and the way I look all at once to the world out there (however superficial it may be)

was the R50 000 a typo????? Dude, you need to get another quote.

I rounded up, but no its not a typo. Veneers cost that much, I've been looking at them for a while now. Between 6500-7500 per tooth. I need 6. Plus the work I need on two decays I have + whitening.

I have a mate who had all his top-front teeth done recently. The result is worth every cent. He's in his late 40's and had no dental care as a kid. You will talk funny for a few days which is also a good laugh.

Note that If you smoke then you are throwing away your money 'cos apparently they go gray within months if you smoke.

I've also followed your debt threads etc ... I have to say that paying of the debt then saving cash to get this done (and paying cash for it) would mean a lot more than just going into more debt or delaying your debt repayment.. The delayed gratification would be a mental victory to go with the physical improvement.

I know what you're saying there but I think I can put off paying my debt for a few months. I'm still making the minimum payments so nothing is really going to waste, and it would mean that my plan is delayed for 3 months, not 6-18 months.

I will be able to pay off my debt within 9 months, so I'm not that worried at this moment. I have plans and then some ;) and want to get this done before my birthday

Surely by only paying the minimum your payments are having less of an overall impact on the debt?

Well, the effect wouldn't change. So lets say I have a personal loan @ 60 months paying for example R1200 on it, the 60 months will stay the same. If I were to pay more into it I will save more on interest and reduce the number of months I'm paying it off for. Getting "back" the R1200 I spent quicker to push into something else.

So by keeping off of it for 3 months not paying in any extra won't hurt me more than it is at the moment.

have you tried drugs? cocaine..because unlike tea, drugs can do that :p

You need money to maintain it, they ground out your original teeth and cap it with veneers so if someone decks you, and some break you have to pay again for new ones coz your old teeth dont exist anymore.....

not the method the doc is using, they don't grind out my teeth at all and I always have the option to go back to my natural teeth

Maybe you should get fake fingernails at the same time? (jokes)

Was thinking of it, but seeing as I'm a guy I can break a nail easily as there is no woman in my life helping me with changing tires or drinking beer :)

Isn't midlife crises supposed to be closer to 40?

Not going through one but if you'd like to call it that then yea, depends on how fast you live. I made about 3x as much as the average 23 year old when I started out in my "real" job just because I worked my ass off.

So now I missed about 6 years of my "young" life, not really caring about how I look because i concentrated a lot on my work instead. Now I can (sort of) afford to do these things and I figured, I haven't been to the dentist in 10+ years, might as well go for broke.
