I saw once (at Digiscape, I think) an iMac on a Vodacom contract.

Does anyone else have these?

Yea - over my 'internet' budget ... so want to see if I can get anything cheaper ;)

If you don't have the R12,500.00 upfront, it's not really an expensive way of getting it. A low interest credit card over the same period is also over R500.00pm - and now one gets the 500MB data and the modem.

Thing is I need data for my iPad, so I would've put that 500MB SIM into my iPad and dropped the Topup 135 I'm currently using. Oh - and sold that modem for a few hundred :/

So effectivly paying R424.00pm - much cheaper than a credit card

Will still mean a 3 year lock in. Wouldn't it be better to save R2000 a month for 4 months and then put the rest on your card? Whats a few months of extra waiting compared to 36 months of lock for an imac which will cost twice as much. By then you might even get an updated imac.

Yea - I'm going to be redoing all my data stuff in a few months, so just putting out my feelers :/

rather save than take the contract

I agree. Rather save up for a couple of months and buy it cash. These contracts are hell.

I'll certainly try - but remember of the R20,124.00 the data is R5364.00 leaving R14,760.00

What is this iMac cash?

I'd still recommend you look at the Mac Mini -- a good second hand one (2010 or 2011) with a future SSD should be more than sufficient with your current monitor...

Also for another future upgrade (aside from an Apple display) you could consider Samsung's very spiffy 27" LED 3D monitor with full HD res. http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/monitors/LS27A950DS/ZA?from_mobile=true

I might also consider letting one of mine go for a reasonable price..

Yeah, Mac Mini is a good option, OP if you prefer this route, get the one with Thunderbolt.

If you were to choose between Samsung and Apple Display, I'd say go with Apple, because you get more pixels for your bucks, 2560 by 1440 pixels compared to 1920x1080. There also some extras, such as built-it Thunderbolt cable, Mac Safe cable, Firewire port, 3 x USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet port, Kesington Security slot, speakers plus HD camera.

The monitor is the thing I like ;)

I think of the clearest and cleanest I've seen in a while - awesome when editing photos!

You can't compare Samsung A950 TN panel to Mac [Cinema] IPS panels found in higher end iMacs. I hear the Samsung A850 is good though, using a modified PVA panel for deep blacks - not available in SA.

When you look at the price of 27" IPS at around R12k, the 27" iMac isn't too badly priced... :P

I can appreciate that -- good luck with your decision

It should be priced at R9999 i.e. same as Air 11" -- just another example of core's greed (US price both = $999)
