iMac Prices :X

Buy it in America, put it in your suitcase and hope to not get caught when it comes to taxes. Prices in SA are all roughly the same. You might get it cheaper by a hundred odd bucks but nothing worth writing home about.

jasonbot : Apple doesn't operate in SA. They have an official distributer in SA called the Core Group (aka Apple IMC SA). They have an online store (which is basically the official Apple store in SA). This is zastore.co.za
So unless you can find a store doing a promotion (Selling it at a loss for some reason), zastore is allways the cheapest

Import charge of 10% of total Value, + 14% VAT aswell as $210 Door to Door shipping from the US to South Africa. Apple do not ship out of the US, so you will need to use a fowarding company (Charge of 2% of items total value will be added)

I could be wrong but didn't they drop the import tax on personal electronics?

They did, but because you are using a forwarding company the items for import are listed as a Value rather than a product. (They dont open the boxes and check the contents, just change the address and reship.) So you sill pay the 10% import fee.
