Imaging of returned assets

So,

We make use of RENTWORXS in our organization, devices (PC's,Laptops and Touchscreens) are replaced on three year rotation, in the past the returned devices get a fresh copy of windows installed so as to destroy all data ect ect before returning to rentworx.

1. This is a tedious process when doing it 1 by 1 with dvd's.
2. There is no proof to auditors that this was actually done and the data destroyed.

i know about Norton Ghost, still doesnt solve problem 2.

so Blancco has caught my attention, it wipes the data and provides an industry accepted report as proof.

comments on Blancco, or advise, suggestions on a different method all appreciated and welcomed.

I'll just comment that reinstalling Windows does not ensure that any data that was previously on the hard drive has been securely erased. It likely only means that the partition table, and any Windows configuration has been overwritten, and the data is likely to still be present on the disk. Taking a disk image, and running recovery software will likely reveal the residual data files on the hard drive.

To securely destroy any data on the drives, they should at the very least be completely overwritten with random data (the entire hard drive), before being repartitioned, and new OS installed.

Yeah exactly why the movie from Reinstalling to a data destruction software, which Blannco seems to be one of the only and better ones out there. however there still needs to be a bootable image on the device for it to be accepted back by rent works, so the destruction needs to take place followed by a reimage.

Blancco followed by a Norton Ghost seems like the way forward.
