Hi all,

I have been having some issues with my Telkom ISDN line since the lightening Storms last week ... It apparently blew something up at the Exchange.

Previously I could not get ADSL due to Telkom not upgrading my Exchange ... which is another story as to how long they have put it off and the false promises I have heard....

I was told today that they cannot fix the problem the lightening caused as the system is so old, they cant source the parts required to fix the lines... its been a week now

Apparently they have now decided to install this iMax system, anyone knows more about it, in terms of speeds... I believe that I will be able to get ADSL if they do this ... What is the Latency like ? any info regarding it would be great.

Thanks and Regards,

I think you're talking about 802.16e (aka "WiMAX").

Wikipedia had a decent article about it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/wimax

You'll be one of the first testing it...good luck with that :p

Nope, Its i-max, not Wi-Max as I originally thought ... apparently its something new regarding a wireless connection.. a dish is placed on your property which receives and transmits on a very low frequency... That is all I learned about it so far... hoping that someone would have more info on this.....

@OP: You are going to be one of the fortunate few who will experience true ADSL2+ broadband once the iMax is commissioned. Without this you would not be able to apply for 8-12Mbps ADSL.

I doubt if Telkom will roll out a new WiMax system, so it will be the wireline solution.

What now becomes important is the condition and length of copper between you and the exchnage.
