the tech came out to test my line, instead of fixing the main prob he just dropped my speed so it looks better, anyways

he told me i can report a new fault so they can move me to IMAX as in on rack3,he said they had problems with rack 3

so what is this IMAX a whole new Cabernet things? or just a new rack

Generally a new cabinet. Depends whether your loop runs to the exchange or another cabinet closer to where you reside, so they will most probably re route your line to the closest IMAX. it depends though on your area etc.

Big screen movie theater?
:P

that was all what i could think of,so that why i asked here instead :P

so a newer one than what i am connected to now, hope it finally fix my problems, how long does a move like that take, anydown time?

depends how far they are moving it and whether it's a completely new cabinet or within the same cabinet etc etc.

very, very basically...

To supply you with an ADSL connection Telkom needs to install equipment in the exchange to split your line between voice and data.

The data connection is via a DSLAM, IMAX or MSAN.

In the beginning Telkom used older Marconi DSLAMs and the maximum download speed was 4Mbps.

Then they started using newer Marconi DSLAMs and you could get a maximum download speed was 10Mbps.

In many cases Telkom did NOT remove the older DSLAMs so you would have a mix of 4 and 10 Mbps DSLAMs in the same exchange.

Then... along came the IMAX, capable of providing a maximum download speed was 24Mbps.

Telkom installed them in some exchanges, not all.

And again, in many cases Telkom did NOT remove the older DSLAMs so you would have a mix of 4 and 10 Mbps DSLAMs and a 24Mbps IMAX in the same exchange.

And then... along came the MSAN, capable of variable speeds up to 100Mbps and on copper or fibre.

And again, in many cases Telkom did NOT remove the older DSLAMs and IMAXs so you would have a mix of 4 and 10 Mbps DSLAMs, a 24Mbps IMAX and MSANs in the same exchange.

The end goal is to only have MSANs an to recover all the DSLAMs and IMAXs but that will take a few years...

PS. By MSAN I refer to the Huawei MSAN and the Alcatel Lucent ISAM.

woa,lots of info there

so im still on the very very old tech
'Marconi AXH2510 DSLAM"

hope i they move me fast and fix my line, what ever went wrong in the 1st place

Pretty sure the 2510 can go up to 10Mbps but it would probably require Metro_ethernet backhaul and not ATM as is usually the case with Telkom.

If you said S20 I would worry!

well moveing over to a newer one ,its already ****ty so worth the shot

theres a way to find out if there is a newer MSAN in my exchange/town?
maby i can move to that :P

should have?as the mall got fibre, and in one aira there busy laying fibre

Marconi AXH2510 is connected via Metro Ethernet.

They are? I was connected to a IMAX that was on ATM Uplink backhaul. The lag and slow speeds when it started filling up was just wow. They just said yes the IMAX is not congested but the ATM link is maxed out and there are plans to upgrade. 6 months later and 1 week downtime for the whole area and the IMAX is on Metro Ethernet and boom Up to 20Mbps was available. :)

Can this be changed and who would one have to sleep with to get one of these changed on your exchange on your line?
Or do you have to know someone who knows someone of a friend that knows someone? ;)
