I would like to be able to stream my iPad photos to my Samsung tv, but the the tv is not Internet ready or currently connected to any computer etc. My Samsung tv is the version just before the latest smart samsung televisions. I was advised to get the Samsung 3d smart blue ray player. I suppose the ATV is the other alternative.

However, should I simply get a router and physically link up the tv by means of an Ethernet cable, and use imediashare, would I be able to display photos from ipad on the tv? There is also a Xbox available, but no wifi.

Answering myself

Bought the D Link 2750U today. Did the 3G setup. Used a Cell C Huawei E1752 modem with an 8ta sim. All iPhones and iPads linked to network.

Downloaded the imediashare light app. Connected Xbox to router via Ethernet cable. Streaming now from ipad wirelessly via router to Xbox to tv. Done.

Nicely done. :) The Apple TV would have worked but it's not exactly cheap.

Apple TV is on the list! All in good time, except if you want to make a donation! :)

Not really. I have 2 ATV's that are in use with a further 3rd one that's still sealed. I'm waiting for cash to buy a TV to go with it. I was planning to sell it (donate?) but changed my mind after getting Netflix and Hulu Plus working.

A couple of months back some guys at work had to go to the US for training. They brought me back the new Airport Express as a gift to say thanks for some GPS's I sorted out for them. It's not "lying around" but is in use every day. Airplay mirroring is far more reliable now. Previously with my D-Link and Asus wifi routers, airplay mirroring was intermittent at best. Now it works every time.

Just found out now that one cannot play movies downloaded from iTunes by means of imediashare. Bummer. Any other alternatives?
