Hi,

I was wondering what it would cost me if I would Import a CPU (Intel Q9550) from Germany. The CPU itself only cost about 165 € so around 1854 Rand. The best I have seen here in SA is 2813 Rand. If I decide to import it what should I go with Fed Ex or UPS or something else?

Bud, over on Prophecy a QX9770 just sold R3500.00 ! You can have my Q9650 for R2800.00.

As Scooby said, there is an import tax implication. We order many books from Amazon.com, and once the items land in SA with the clearing agent, they are by law forced to charge you duty on the items, ie the driver will not release them without payment of the duty. Amazon uses UPS.

Thers is a much larger consideration though with importing electronic goods, as opposed to books. A book cannot fail/break. If your CPU lands here and it is faulty, you have just parted with R1854 plus duty and 14% VAT. Of course if you believe that the difference between the local price and the landed cost of your German CPU is worth that risk, by all means go for it. I wouldn't IMHO.

Scam alert.

HTF can someone sell a new q9550 for 1999? impossible in my opinion, newegg is rather cheap and they have them for 229 dollars so explain how he is selling new q9550's for 2k?

sounds to me like deposit the money in my bank account and you'll never hear from me again.

Gonna cost a couple hundred as well for FedEx. IMO not worth it for new CPU's. If it is a dud or goes faulty your stuffed.

Well if it goes faulty Intel has a international warrenty I called them and asked :) but I think I'll stick with my Q6600 and wait till the end of the year and go for a I7 reading everything about VAT etc.

The guy selling the Q9550 has had it on for sale here and on prophecy already..I reckon is legit, go meet face to face and take goods and pay.
