So here's the deal breaker. You need to have a valid work permit for Botswana before you are allowed to bring that car into SA without paying the ludicrous import levies. Even then they are so full of nonsense, for example if you ask one of the importers there to get you a specific car from Japan it is only allowed to be transported from Durban to Bots on a trailer - it cannot be driven to there.
The reason for the work permit is so that they know you are paying tax on that side.

Stunning car, is it worth the hassle and effort? I don't think so, but that's my personal opinion.
Seeing as the Original Hachi is so darn expensive, MKiv Supras and VER6 STi's are all expensive, I went for something that was available in SA, not common, Looks of the Hachi, Enough grunt (7MGTE) and most important, has pop up headlights. Aptly named: The Buster....
Lol, would love one of those, heard whispers of one driving around here in CPT. Pity they're cult cars so ridiculously over priced. Guess i'll have to settle for the 3lt turbo tho

The panda is owned by a guy that works at Mweb i think. Lives in Kuilsriver. Must've cost him an arm and a leg though, cos Panda Treuno's cost more in Japan than MKiv Supras.

Take a look at these guys. They ship to durban, then it goes via truck to Gaborone. From there you need to register it in botswana.

The Trueno is way too overpriced.
Im currently in the works of turning my current project AE82 into a Trueno look alike.
Having the full front, fenders bumper, pop ups, front doors and skins for the rears etc imported from Australia.
Apparently the chassis is as close to the AE86 and there is a AE101 tuned by Zeeline running a 20v turbo RWD conversion.
So i think with enough work i'll have something different to roll around in, RWD pop up light AE82
For me it was either the Soarer or the conversion as my new years resolution
Their options are very limited as well.
FD would be nice.
Interesting tho that the MKIV's can only be used for racing, not road use

Only currently, japan changes the laws i.t.o. exports. Currently they've closed MKiv exports. I suspect it'll re-open again this year. So the Mkiv's imported before 2016, could be licensed as road cars, or something like that....
There was a time they stopped all AE86 exports too, but I belive it's open again?
I recall there also being a loophole into bringing in collectors editions, or rather cars that MSA have listed somewhere..

most of these jap classics, if done correctly and invested in w.r.t mods etc will need to be driven on the track only in any case.

They don't make it clear in the article or website but they mainly ship to sub Saharan countries other than South Africa. I suppose they will import into South Africa but you'll be paying a 140% odd duty based on the current South African value of the vehicle.Sorry for the necro, but what is the story here:
