Hey Guys

Looking to import a gaming laptop from the USA and would like to know if anyone has done it an their experience:

1. Warranty - The warranty is only valid the USA. I assume I could the just opt for an open box deal and safe some money. I assume the local manufacturer (ASUS) should be able to repair the laptop if anything happens ?
2. Power - Does the power difference between the USA and RSA have an effect on the battery / machine long term ?

Thanks

I imported a laptop (a cheaper one though) a few years back with Amazon - I would have just returned it through Amazon if needed to (I didn't).

Power wise, the adapters they ship with be multi-voltage so there is nothing to worry about there.

You really have to ask yourself though if it's worth it. In my case it was a relatively cheap laptop that wasn't available locally at all and the closest competing one I could get locally was like R2000 more expensive so it was a no-brainer.

Do you know how much it's going to cost once shipped and is there anything else you could locally?

Laptops are ridiculous in SA, through Amazon it is around R 27 500 and through other websites and AGS it is around R 25000 (includes R 1000 shipping and 1.1 x1.15 taxes and import). Only guys that have stock in RSA is evetech and they are R 42000 (and by reading the reviews they also won't really honor the warranty)

Which Asus gaming laptop doesnt have a world-wide warranty? Any Asus laptop that I purchased in the USA was covered and they all went into repair at some stage, which being an Asus, is to be expected.

Prices here are crazy..released price= $1.5k vs SA price= $2.1k..crazy

You should have a 1 year international warranty - just register your laptop on asus.com. Junior had a touch screen that broke and it was replaced here free under the accidental warranty, was also Amazon import.
