Hey all,

I'm looking to import an Alienware laptop using a parcel forwarding service such as Shipito and was wondering how accurate their shipping cost estimator usually is? I read somewhere that you have to pay more when shipping parcels containing batteries (ie. laptops) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this?

The current estimate, with shipping is $60 for a 3.5 kg parcel of 50 x 40 x 10 cm (insurance for $1600 included). Does that sound about right or too good to be true?

AFAIK I only have to pay VAT on this when importing (and potentially Ad Valorem... do they measure the box or device for this?)

Oh and feel free to try talk me out of this silliness if you think Alienware/parcel forwarding is a bad idea :)

Thanks for reading!

Just looking at some examples of Alienware laptops shipping to SA from amazon.com and their shipping and import duty estimate comes in around $350.. they are very accurate and I have never paid more than that estimate, even got refunded some of it once, as their estimate was a little high..

Awesome! Yea Amazon shipping is great. Do you remember what the selling price of that laptop was?
