Ok so i thought this would be easy but it keeps telling me another program is using the files!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know a way to do it?

Close Outlook.
Just add them to Outlook Express.
Close Outlook Express, then open Outlook.

It should ask to import from another account, say yes....

Nope i select outlook 4,5,6 select my backup folder and get told another program is using the files.

Copy the dbx files to the windows 7 box's C:\ drive, import to windows mail

Thats the stupid thing it has no windows mail lol

I will try and download windows mail for windows 7 though, worth a try.

MSN downloader ( that has options to download things like messenger etc also can download windows mail :) )

Oops forgot to add, could convert the dbx mails to thunderbird or use an app like IMAPSize to convert the mail stores to a useable format like .msg

The only reason it doesn't have a mail package is because of all the other idiots crying that MS are forcing people to use thier products by shipping them with the OS. So after all the crying by the idiots, I guess MS pulled it.

Windows Live mail is pretty good though. I used it while I was testing Win7 and have actually now installed it on my XP machines as well

Yea we all know the idiots who wanted this gone are idiots along with the EU, i have downloaded and will try but do you know how i import my .dbx files into it?

I pretty much just pointed it towards the outlook folders and told it import and it grabbed everything.

I'll check when I get home later what I did exactly

Thanx man.

Will outlook 2003 pick up the files do you think and import them as it would do with outlook express?

It should.. Ironically I actually just switched my mail from outlook express to Outlook 2003 about a month ago at work, and did the same to my boss' machine on monday. Mostly because of the built in spam filtering system as it has become a major problem (My boss gets about 200 spam emails a day, ranging from increasing his penis, to being saved by God. At least they don't discriminate).

As a side note. The spam filtering is what I like about Win Live mail. You dont have to go through all that, right clicking to empty the folder. There is a small "X" that comes up next to the mail folders that instantly deletes all the mails in it (if you have told it to disable the warnings that is)

Outlook 2003 took about 20 min to import, but it did it flawlessly. Once I was sure everything was fine. I un-installed OE, But for some reason even with it un-installed, Sending mail via a weblink, still opens up OE, which shouldn't be there. So I am still working on that little problem

As to importing into windows live, I just double checked and it was pretty much,File > Import > Outlook Express 6 > Select the folder (which was a duplicate copy of all the existing DBX files) and let Live do the rest.

I've pretty sure you have shut down everything though and made sure nothing else is running, though as a thought, make sure you have windows messenger shut down as well just in case. It has a habit of starting up on its own and it does run along side OE which of course you dont have in W7,............... though I cant think of anything else

:( :(

Yea i cannot seem to find file though, cannot see where it is, only option hehe.

I will post a screenie later on.

Crap.... For the life of me I cant remember how to get that back... I know it happened to me as well at first. I think its somewhere in the settings, but you need to bring those up first.

If you push the "ALT" key, does the file menu show up?

Ok.. found it...

On the left hand side of the screen. Next to word sign in. The second icon that looks like a cursor next to a drop down box. Click on it and select "show menu bar"

edit:
Or as I just found out... hit "ALT+M" twice to bring it up
