I saw a Toshiba 37HL67 REGZA 37" LCD on a local web site for ~ R19 000.00. This is a SA site that imports from sites like amazon/newegg etc.

The same panel on TigerDirect goes for $949.00 -> ~ R6 600.00
Plus add another ~ 3 grand for shipping and you get ~ R10 000.00

You can't tell me that import duties amount to the balance -> R9 000.00 !

Man we are getting ripped in this country...makes my blood boil :mad:

Has anyone tried a big import like an LCD before? I have a myus account and am really tempted at these prices!

Problem is you cannot import from Tigerdirect, they only ship to the states. Usually those sites that do ship here, is a lot more expensive

I didn't realise there was vat on top of that - @14%?? Still comes out ~ R7600.00 less.

If I'm correct the local online sites that import on behalf of their customers don't pay for warranty returns either. So is it just as risky to order form them?

It still shows how we get ripped though.:mad:
