I'm looking for an app than can import a PDF document into excel so i can sort the columns alphabetically instead of by date.

In a properly made pdf fonts are actually embedded into the document as text. Unlike a scanned image these are selectable.Doesn't work because PDF's are like images.
Ask them to sort it different and resent?
does none of the hundreds of google results work for you? I've converted PDF files to AutoCAD format, so excel should be a snap.
Or give it to a guy with a mac - there are more ways around it than I can readily list on that platform. Some PDF's have embedded DRM that removes the copy and paste function.
If that's the case, then you'll have to use OCR software.
What are the document security settings? Ctrl+Alt+S ?
Changing a PDF is the easiest thing in the world. Open it up with a Hex or Text editor and go mad. As long as you adhere to the format which is available publically.Clearly they don't want anyone forging a statement or changing it.
