I can currently buy it on Amazon for around 800 USD to my door.

I see it's on sale currently for 100 USD cheaper (but only in the US).

I checked on MyUS and it would cost around 620 USD on sale to ship it here, but I would be liable for customs, which would probably even it out to Amazon's total price including import fees.

I'm tempted just to buy on Amazon and save any potential hassle with trying to save a few bucks.

Any other ways worth mentioning?

I see you can get it from some local shops but it doesn't make sense to pay their -+4000 ZAR markup.
 
I also looked at a site called Big Apple Buddy, which I hadn't heard of before but which seems reputable.

However, I decided in the end that the saving of a few hundred rand didn't outweigh the convenience and tried and tested Amazon method, so I went with them.

Agree about the local sites - that price difference is just too much.
 
I've used Big Apple Buddy.

Amazon refused to ship a home security camera(!), confiscated the item and refunded my purchase price. I then used BAB and although shipping and handling was more expensive, it was a painless process and the items arrived within a few days.

Which courier do they use locally in South Africa?
