impossible problem

I have seen this before. Some cards are not completely compatible with some motherboards. I have actually seen this documented in some card's user guide, though I cannot recall which one at this moment. In that same user guide there were some conditions for some motherboards, in some, it would only work in odd slots, in some only in even slots, in some you had to have a graphics card in, in some you had to not have a graphics cards in, or something to that effect. So try different slots, else you might just have incompatible hardware - meaning new motherboard, or tuner...

This has just reminded me that I have TV tuner card that I'm not using, a PCI card. If you're interested you're welcome to try it and buy it off me - I'm in CT.

Hi people

This is my first thread so I hope I'm starting it right... anyways, I have a hardware problem that has been confuessing me and two computer shop technicians. So naturally, I came here. The problem is that I bpught a tv tuner card (video mate vista E500F PCIe). As the names says, its a pci express 1x device. The problem is that my pc doesn't detect it at all... no "unknown device found" or "installing drivers" messages. I had a ecs GEFORCE6100SM-M2 motherboard and all the drivers were installed correctly.... pc shop 1 took it in. Tested the card and said it worked on an other pc.... took it to pc shop 2, they said same thing and advised me a new motherboard might fix the problem. So I got a M2N68-AM SE2 Board. Put it in with high hopes, installed drivers, and.... nothing, same as before... I'm running xp home sp3 and ubuntu 10.04. Ubuntu "lspcu" doesn't detect the card either. Any ideas????? Thanks in advance

There was no mention of the Device Manager in the OP, maybe you should read it again?

Don't be a tool.

There was no mention of it, no. Hence my question: if his 'unknown device' statement referred to an unknown device in device manager. If it's at least showing there as unknown, then that's a lot easier to resolve that if it's not even being detected. No need to call me a tool.

I'm sorry, I misread his OP then... Then again, if he didn't get the message, it is save to say that it isn't showing in device manager!

Sorry, but I thought that "unknown device" was so closely related to device manager that I forgot to mention it specifically.... the weird thing is that it was incompatible with atleast 2 different amd boards and I have to assume the technicians amd board... no, they didn't give my money back or exchange it.. they refused and demanded to send it to suppliers where I must wait up to I think 60 days. I'm really never going to buy from them again. Oh, I did try conecting the power switch cables also. I'm sorta out of cash after this south bit lol

They nogal got a k@k attitude. You said it's Chaos Computers right? And they only have one branch? Please specify where you bought it, so that I can make a note never to buy from them again. And you know what, why don't you start a thread titled "Chaos Computers ripped me off" or something similar, and I also suggest you report them on Hellopeter.com.

Its the one in Somerset-west. I did try hellopeter, but they don't respond on it apparently. What would be the point of making a thread against them... anyways, thanks for all your help everyone

Somerset West is absolutely horrible for PC shops. There's Cell&IT Warehouse, Chaos and Computer Mania...all uniformly useless.

The only decent computer shop in Somerset West is Wootware, but I don't think they have that much stock like those other chain stores have.
