About a week ago our phone line at home died. When I reported the fault to telkom after I noticed the line was down they said they would send a techie shortly to check out the problem.. The first weird thing that happened is that I got the sms to say that someone had been dispatched to look at the problem about 5min after the fault report was opened, and about 10min after that there was a telkom dude at my house to try an find the problem.. He spend a large chunk of the day placing tracers everywhere until he discovered the cable feeding our street from the exchange was cut, it looked like someone tried to steal the cable but got distracted(or caught) just before they were done and so they just left it on the ground..
Well he put in a report to get contractors to come an replace the cable, and a day or two later we had phone lines again..
On wed night/thurs morn the cable thieves struck again (exactly 00h36 according to my ipcop logs).. Anyway i reported the fault to telkom when i got home yesterday (thurs), and they logged another report, only thing is this time i could see the chunk of cable missing and could tell them where to go straight away..
When i got home today i was pleasantly surprised to see our lines were up again, and telkom had already replaced the cable!!
The service from their side over the past few weeks has really taken me off guard. And i never though i'd say this but WELL DONE!!
I suppose they got a lot of complaits cuz it knocked out half the street's phones each time the cable was cut, but still a nice effort from telkom..
One thing did piss me off tho, and that was while i was reporting each fault the people attending to my calls in the call centre kept trying to sell me more telkom products, not what i want when all i need is a fault sorted quickly..
