Hi,

I have a 10Mbps Business DSL Package with Afrihost at the moment. When ever I test my line I get the following stats:

ADSL Router Results:

Max sync rate: 10240kbps
Current Downstream Sync: 5088kbps
SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio): 6.1 dB
Attenuation: 31.4 dB

DSLAM Results (Your Location to Telkom Exchange):

Max sync rate: 1024kbps
Current Downstream Sync: 576kbps
SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio): 5.0 dB
Attenuation: 38 dB

Now my question is:
(None of the stuff really makes sense to me)

Why is my current downstream 5088kps and not closer to 10240kps (i mean thats what Im paying for after all)?
How does the low SNR (5.0 dB) impact me negatively?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

there must be problem wiht your line
with a ATT at 31 u should get full 10mbps

log a fault, with telkom for a noisy line

also the high the SNR the better

Test with another router. It might be the quickest fix. If it makes no difference, downgrade to 4Meg.

I replaced my, still operational, 10 year old Mega 100WR with a new router and went from barely syncing 4Meg to rock stable 10Meg, with the router indicating a max sync of 16Mb.

I have logged a complaint with telkom before...they firstly take 9-12 days to "work on the issue" and then nothing gets done anyway.

i used to be on a 4Mbps line and then the max download id ever get was 200kbps and for my business that was very impractical. Hence me upgrading to 10Mbps

well with telkom, just keep on going..

4monts here to get my line fixed, nothing is happening

have u tryed to pm "telkomZA" here on the forums, maby he can help you out

thats the thing...i replaced my router 3 times this year (mostly due to lightning strikes) and i bought a R 1500 router when i upgraded my line its a TP-Link N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router... it cant be faulty due to lightning as i make sure to disconnect it fully the moment the weather turns bad... i have also returned the router for a new one once and yet still having these issues.... at this very moment im trying to download a 200mb file from dropbox and my internet has crawled to a standstill only downloading at 10-20kbps

Your line is most likely damaged, ask if you can order a new line and cancel the old one.

actully really want to do that, and ask it to be installed in my place, and they use the pole on the neighbors yard, its closer and newer

not only is the pole closer the lenth the cable will be is shorter also,

what should i get home line or business, what will be better quality

but prob gonna take ages for telkom to install it anyways

when i do a adsl check i get this
Your request failed
No free ports available- Waiters registered on StationCode(s): WWOC:23.

Home and Business lines are the same quality, the only difference is support. It is supposed to be quite a bit faster on a business line, also if you have Telkom as an ISP they are often annoying and try to force you to take a "business" package.

Or at least that is my understanding of it.
