Hey guys :)

When streaming youtube videos I sometimes get lag with 360P videos on my Telkom 4Mb line. When I download these videos with IDM the speed is about 450KBp/s, which is 4 time the required speed. The reason for this, I believe, is that youtube limits the low res speed to compensate bandwidth for HD.

I want to know, is it possible to make the videos is youtube multi-thread (like IDM downloads files in parts) to bypass the bandwidth limits? Maybe like a firefox add-on or something? Or is there any other way to improve the speed?

Thanx :)

There are local mirrors for Youtube, but DNS doesn't always automatically redirect to one of these... If you force Youtube services to a local IP in your hosts file, it should stream fast enough on a 4mbps line to avoid lag.

See this thread.

Sometimes one has to refresh the page, even with a modified hosts file, to force it to the local mirror. It streams much faster than international.
