Hi Guys

So we got a new cable from the tele pole as it used to run underground (not properly done . Used to have a lot of lightning strike) so now it hangs from the pole to the roof and thought a hole in the wall, once it's through it then connects to an old extender !! We used to sync at 4mb but now we at 3mb! Could this old extension affect the attenuation etc?

I'm going to try and connect it directly to the black cable

Thanks

Plug it right into the wall. If you still need more speed, get one of these: http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=45_47&products_id=2893

They're quite cheap and synch much faster and stabler than almost any other DSL modem, with the exception of http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...mp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B002TOKGKY

Have your current DSL router route all traffic to the new ADSL router / or just use old DSL router as a switch.

For R200, you couldn't want anything better :)

Did it came down with a metal pipe?
Is the new cable twisted?
Was the underground one shielded?

Connect it with nothing else no filter and no phone let us know the result pls.

Okay so I checked , went from 2816 to 3264 attenuation dropped by 1 and SNR went from 5.9 to 7.3 ( this is download )

So did improve but our neighbours attenuation is 55db? Lol

Ours is 60db

But still no 4mb? When I connect the phone it drops he SNR to 6.4

That is quite a good improvement ...copper is quite unpredictable on DSL because the twist in the underground cable (telephone cable) was designed to eliminate/reduce cross talk on voice and was not designed for pushing data .

Still strange that our neighbours get 55db? isnt it?

Different routers read lines with different accuracy. You should only concern yourself with the SNR which is usually much more accurate. Good routers synch with an SNR between 5-6, making the line go as fast as possible without making it unstable. Some routers like the Billion 7800 allow you to "lie" to the DSLAM to force a much faster connection than should be possible, with "stable" SNRs between 2.5 and 3.

So are you suggesting i get a new router?
