Improving Pings?

Hey guys, does anyone know how to get better pings in GW if possible? I run pingplotter to the server in EU and I get 180ms pings up to a German server IP: 62.154.17.234 - after that the two remaining hops has 100% packet loss so I can't see pings to them. When I check the ping in game it shows 500ms to 750ms... what is up with that?

The IP I plot is 206.127.145.23
 
Possible that is shaping.

It is possible that connection - checked some time ago pings with a packets of 32bytes and 1024bytes. Former has like 200-300ms, latter has 600ms. That's how it is.
I think that size of packets and shaping. Never get low than 235ms in minimal environment, and i get higher latencies in more aggressive environment, sometimes i get 300ms in that environment.

I think shaping is possible problem + 2nd problem. To solve it just play in English servers. 500ms not hurting gameplay there unless you PvP.

But this still not solving your problem? Means that 2nd problem is yours. Nothing to do about this.

Then you may try to shut extra programs that using internet connection ie. downloads, messengers, etc...

Maybe opening the correct ports on your router, port 80 and 6112.
 
Hmmm, I'll try the ports - But to be honest, I think the problem is in Germany as my pings up to there is < 200ms. I was thinking there could be a way to route my traffic another way? (without paying ofc :D )
 
No, it's not ports. If it were ports, you won't be able to play at all.

With an unshaped connection, you definitely should not be getting 500ms+ ping - that is ridiculous! (spikes are normal though).
I get 200-300ms with unshaped. Is yours wireless and what is the linespeed?

I would get in contact with my ISP if I was you. It is either your connection being the problem (are you running anything else in the background?) or the backhauls / overseas links are problematic, even going all the way directly to the GW network (they may have congestion), but then more people should have these problems.
Anet had a problem with some links to America, which affected a helluva lot of people in EU, but nothing for the last week or 2.

You can easily check if it is region by switching to International or American.
 
Flip - I'd love to check where and how ... Lately my Emo is jerking lots when running around with others. So I mostly just run with my heroes.

Chris_H, I haven't seen you logged on in a while dude. I kinda stopped playing aion as well though :/

I have a wireless connection that is VERY stable, pings to eve online server for instance is 180ms. Pings to local games like CoD6 is about 50ms. It looks like switching to American servers have better pings with about 100ms and is more stable (stays at about 350 to 400ms where EU gos up and down between 500 to 750)

Hey man, yeah, I've been working double shifts every day for the last month and half. fsckd up my gaming and my gym routine. Found out I am not getting payed for the time neither can I have the time off so i resigned on Monday lol. Will try and be online a bit more... Why have you stopped Aion? not so cool or servers too busy?

Same - working late hours for projects that need to be finished. I had Aion's subs running for a whole month without logging in once. Kind of a waste, but ok.

This last week I've been working til 9pm getting past project deadlines etc, but I've been off gaming in general this last month or so. Just not feeling a sense of enjoyment when playing anything.

I'm keen to get back into it.

anyway back to topic - My ping is around 300-600 (little orange block) or so it seems. Is that good/bad?

Imo 600 and below is fine. Although playing an interrupt ranger / mesmer might be a challenge for anything above 350.

Playing anything else with a 500 ping (i usually get 400-550) is fine. I have played every class barring a paragon and have had no problems.

Who mentioned that you can lvl 1-20 in one day via Factions/GWEN? I'd love to know how to do that...
 
It really is not hard. Just paly the story line.

Factions was brought out more for the PvP side (Luxon vs Kurzi) so the developers made the befinners quests give a good amount of XP so the players could reach lvl 20 faster so they could do some pvp.

EotN / GWEN gives you two lvl 20 heroes from the word go and it buffs you so you have the HP and energy of a lvl 20 char thus making you gain high XP (because your a lvl 10-19 killing lvl 24 enemies). Also a lot of the quests give high XP rewards.

You need to do the first three quests he gives you.
Once you have the Gold Brass Knuckles and a few Dwarven skills, go back and take the quest:
Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza!
You basically take the triple XP scroll with (ends if you don't kill some one in 30 seconds) it ends whilst trying to kill the first boss you face.
(After a while and getting use to the speed to keep the scroll alive/going you can maintain it even with bosses)
The scroll should get you from lvl 10 - 20 in 45 minutes and about three - four runs when you know what you doing.
Once the quest is done, accept reward and rezone in Gunner's Hold and take quest again ~ pick up all the drops and sell them including the Ale from the chest and you will have enough money to buy another scroll.

I'm so stoked i got GWEN though - all other Ele armor looks gay.

I got my max norn title yesterday. Now only have master of the north left.

I need to Vanq 9 more EotN areas for it. Feel like joining me?

got work tonight so will only be able to join you tomorrow night onwards to VQ
I still cant do the one VQ in Prophecies, that one with the drawl just outside Ascalon/Great Northern Wall
I ran the discord way as me as a SoS and was doing fine but as soon as we hit 2 monk Drawls I lost the minons and after that it was all down hill.
I was even given the Para Discord builds and tried those but Olias was dying at random points :mad:
But ye really need just that one and then got like 5 other places left of Tyria to VQ

Sorry I havent been doing speedbooking as of late :\
Been trying the Mobway in UW for the past few days with all the teams faling grrrr!
Had one team where we did (9 of 10 quests) and had wastes left.
By that time the team was already fighting on what needs to be done ect ect noob bashing here and there
That some one got fed up and popped the quests and got us all killed :<
But ye really just want that monument for HoM and then need The Deep and im done with those places.
Need to get 100 Elites also and I'm done with Skills capping and move to NF to get Guardian title
So much work but sooooo much fun :D
