Hi all,

Well my parents decided to move the router around and now my signal to my pc has decreased a lot, before it was across the house but I was getting almost full signal and now its in the room across the passage from me but my signal decreased to about 50% and on some days it wont even connect.

Here's a very rough picture about the layout :p

Any ideas how I can fix this? I've tried messing with the TX level on the router and that did nothing. I've tried moving the router around in the other room and still nothing.

Thanx in advance

Easiest way is to buy some CAT5 cable and run it through the ceiling to the router. Seriously, wired cable is best.

Height? I found that having the router higher than the pc resulted in better reception. Try putting the router in the ceiling.

Otherwise ... you've got to limit the number of layers of wet/thick concrete/bricks between the router and the pc. The other signal killer seems to be zink.

At the moment I am using a cable and definitely agree that its better except its just running on the floor through the house which my parents have a problem with :p

I doubt it'd be long enough to put in the roof though and I don't think my parents like the idea of having it going through the roof most likely cause they don't care cause they have the router their side so me having internet isn't a big concern to them :rolleyes:

You can get a separate antenna for the PC or router; it simply replaces the standard antenna. That can improve reception, partly because yo can move the antenna around a bit (it's on a metre-long cable).

must be the old mega 100, the mega 105WR got great signal. Always get 5/5

Had a problem with signal strength aswell...

Bricks are okay but metal is the main problem... How about shuffling your room around a bit? But seriously... Get a long cable and if you cant go via the ceiling get some of those cable fittings that you hammer into the wall and fit it nicely?

@SlyFly: Excellent tip dude! Dramatically improved my signal connection. I used to get a 'Low' connection with one bar, now I get a 'Good' connection with three bars. Going to make a bigger one next time.

@Bwana: Classic!

I'm gonna try that home made aerial thing and see how that works out, looks interesting :p
