Very Good question! At the moment seems like a free for all in the FTTH space!

Quick question: will fibre still work during a power outage as long as you have a power backup for your phone/router?

Yes.

It will also be dependant on your network operator's standby power capabilities at the various points in the network.

WoW! They are about 8 years behind technology wise! What a process to get a connection to one household! No wonder the cost.

Glad I don't live in that backward neighbourhood.

Can someone summarize the actual and theoretical max speed limits for both downstream and upstream for each of fibre technology, AON, PON, GPON, etc. ?

Been googling and Wikipedia, I don't seem to find any summary?

And how many end users per splitter ?

Very interesting read.
So this guy on his 2Gbps fibre line downloaded GTA5, which is 64GB in 3 minutes..
That's not possible.

If he was able to saturate his 2Gbps line, he'd only be able to download 64GB in around 5-6 min.

From the article for clarification,

Steam was able to approach the ceiling on my connection quite easily. I tried downloading a fresh copy of Grand Theft Auto 5 from Steam. The game is over 64GB and finished downloading in 3 minutes and 52 seconds. This is faster than you can copy to a hard drive or a USB stick, and it's actually faster than the theoretical 2Gbps speed by about 10 percent.

The article is accurate, the commentator not so much but close.
