koffiejunkie,

Let me just add that you can probably get by without an antenna. There are cases when nothing else will do, so it will be a good idea to borrow someone's modem and just check first.

But in my case I get 0% signal just using the modem. I can't connect to any tower, but with the help of a cantenna ( Pringles ) or my current Cowtenna ( Made from a milk carton box ) I can boost the signal to 12%, which is more than enough.

As far as service is concerned...
With my ISDN line I was pulling down about 8GB a month, only connecting during callmore times. Cost - R700
With MyWireless I am barely hitting 1 GB for August, downloading 24 / 7. Cost - R850

If you are going to be using it for browsing, not mass downloading, it should be fine though

Just a little perspective for the p2p users who long for their ADSL. This is the fastest of three torrents I have going at work.

Check exist: 330/333 Complete
Already/Total: 103/333
Listen on: 2703
- 18,[105/333/333],79,84 | 0,0 E:0

That's 79 bytes per second currently, with an avarage of 84 bytes per second.

yeah, my bittorrent speeds average quite a bit higher than that.. I get about 150/200 bytes per second... so I guess with the contention ratio I am really experiencing true broadband. I thank Sentech for informing my ignorant self that broadband really has very little to do with speed, it's just a title which you slap on your product and voila! I was so uneducated, I mean I actually thought that if you said your product was 128k package that that meant one should expect speeds of 128k, SILLY ME!!

I think I am going to start an ISP of my own, I'm going to have connections ranging from 10 Mbit/s - 80 Mbit/s , with a contention ratio of 1/infinity, all users will route through my 56k dial-up connection when I feel like giving them fast speeds and my sentech 128 k connection when I feel like slowing things down a lil.
In addition to this I am going to help out the disabled by hiring mentally handicapped people to work behind
the helpdesk, I know SENTECH.. I am sorry for stealing your ideas, but you need just the right kind of talent/personality to work behind the helpdesk.

As for technical staff I'm planning a mass exodus/escape plan for all the monkeys from Johannesburg Zoo, they will have to share shifts with the helpdesk operators, we're hoping to break Max the Gorilla out to so he can head up our Marketing/PR department ... look out Winston, there's competition coming your way.

Please would any users intrested in purchasing the MegaPow 10 - 80 Mbit/s service please contact me.

Sorry mrbob, Max died of old age on May 05 2004, the day that I "tested" MyWi. But don't count him out as far as good help is concerned

Koffie - I was also one of the 'happy' ones when I joined this forum, I couldn't believe the speeds I was getting - it is just in the last 3 weeks that everything started to stink - lets hope from tomorrow some kind of normality returns. And if they cap I want a reduced fee.

Jeez there will be trouble if the cap is still in force from tomorrow onwards. We have logs and proof of a cap. There is just no harder evidence to thwart their uncapped advertising efforts. Make that midnight tonight.
