So I wake this morning and figure I want to get something - maybe a remote trigger release and a wider (cheap) lens. Or a battery grip. Or anything really. I have R3,000 ebucks and will put in more.

I noticed NO ONE keeps stock of anything. I tried Makro, Kodak, FotoFirst, Cats Digital etc and there's nothing Canon available.

One salesman told me the supplier has no stock.

Am I normally going to battle? :/

I know the feeling, that irresistible urge to splah. :) Don't you have a real camera shop in the vicinity, like Orms?

What are you looking at for wider? The 35 f2 is fairly inexpensive with decent IQ.

Order from Amazon then. Not sure your ebucks will help though.

Spent my money on the 70-200 - so anything wider would be great.

Set out today to get the 50mm 1.8 and check out anything else that may take my fancy, but no one has stock of anything.

@ Hilton - I meant impulse ... as in having lunch and deciding 'I feel like a lens today ....' without having to think about it for days

Gosh, sometimes I wish I could just do that. I tend to over analyse everything, join at least three different forums per continent, read at least 23 different reviews and then end up buying whatever is in stock.

Sigh!

I did mention in another thread that due to the quake and tsunami in Japan there will be quite a shortage of Canon gear.

This was also confirmed by Orms when I was there last week buying my 60D. They had to break up a kit so I could get the camera only.

Yea - they broke up my kit as well ... I got the last 70-200mm too.

I remember opening my box and when I saw kit lens included, I thought perhaps they made a mistake and I scored a lens ;)

I'm hoping it's not usually like this though and that in future I could go in to a store and buy something :/

@ hilton - I mean cheaper things ... a remote shutter release, 50mm 1.8, battery grip and lens cleaner should be about R4,500.00 - and with R3,000.00 ebucks, I thought I could walk in Makro and at least get one of those items at no charge. After trying a few places, very few had stock of anything
