In Ear Headphones

I listen to music off my iPhone in the office while I work.

I have been using the stock standard apple headphones for a while and I want to replace them.

From browsing takealot I have come up with some that I am interested in.
Sennheiser CX300-II

Sennheiser MX470

iBeats

Tour

Now are the dre's worth the price, what else should I be looking at and is takealot the best place to buy them.

I've listened to a few Dre's when I was in the US - wasn't overly blown away by them. Personally I am on my 2nd set of CX 300's (first one was attained before it became a II model) - and they are great. Bass is really good but not overpowering. Plus the rubber/silicon things come in 3 different sizes - so you can fit it to your ear. I have some of the sennheiserexercise ones for gym - which I am not overly happy with, but frankly it is gym - there is sweat - they don't need to be at audiophile level to get me through another 5 minutes on the treadmill.

Nice thing with the CX300's .. just keep them in your ears, even when not listening to music - cuts out a lot of office noise.

Even these are pretty good at around R335:

Also remember a lot of these are all the same OEM products, just rebranded...
 
If you're on the market for a R2000 set of earphones, go for the Sennheiser IE6's

Sennheiser has been around since 1945, so they obviously know what they're doing.

If you're looking at entry-level, the MX-470's are amazing for the price as well,
but they won't be as comfortable as the CX-300-II.

I would personally go for the MX-470's, since the sound quality is superior to the
CX-300 II's, even though the MX-470 is an older product.
 
I've got a pair of the Sennheiser CX300-II and love them.

If you don't mind an over ear set, I've also got a pair of the Sony XB500 which i wear all day everyday in the office. Extremely comfortable and they block out allot of the office noise!
They are pricey at like R800. But they also don't leak sound either and have good bass.
My phone powers them no problem so i'm sure yours should to.

I will probably only be using these on my phone so all those adapters are a bit of a waste... this review praised the compatibility but dissed the audio quality

Not too keen on a pair of cans.. office is pretty uptight, will get tuned if I look like I'm about to scratch a mix.

So far CX300's are looking sweet, If I'm feeling rich I'll go IE6
 
What I am about to say is heresy :eek: but just read through: buy your CX300-IIs from Incredible!

And here's why: some time back I got a pair of Skull Candy in-ears which, as I was to subsequently find after going through THREE sets in quick succession, were ..less.. than great. In fact, after the third set breaking I ranted/vented (on account of having reached the end of my tether with having to KEEP going back) at the Northgate branch that those Skull Candys were a 'steaming pile of crap' and could he PLEASE help me get past this by paying in the difference on something better. Which is when I got the Sennies. Okay, I am now on my second set because, as it turns out, they don't do well with being plug-down in my pocket and the right-angle post basically broke. But always gave me sound all the while, go figure.

So now I've exchanged my way through to FOUR sets of earphones at the Northgate/Fourways branches and at NO time have I had any meaningful problem with exchanging: okay it took talking to the manager to get the go-ahead to buy up but that's hardly a problem. Essentially my experience here is that they have become, well, GOOD at warranty returns ..clearly you want to have your till-slip and packaging when you do the return, but that's only reasonable too.

Cheapest place gets my money and I have also had good experience with takealots returns system. Takes a bit longer though.

Fair enough, so let's look at that. Incredible charge R499 (argh at ninetynitis!) and *your* takealot link shows R568 - that would appear to be game over right there...:cool: But following through to returns: you can go to ANY Incredible with your slip and packaging and, there and then, (as has been my experience with 'phones) you will get attended to and can expect to walk out with new ones, done and dusted. And I see that as being a lower cost for my time and the whole back and forth thing with posting back, the email convo that inevitably happens, and all that palaver.

Still and all, it's not like logic ever really wins when people's minds are made up, is it? :p

Cool off... I didn't know how much incredible had them for, was planning on checking before buying.

Doubt you need to. Especially with relatively entry level buds. Audiophiles love it though. If you want you can leave mp3s playing for a few nights, medium volume.

Naaah...

Music is sounding epic though, tunes I shrugged off are now becoming my favorites... listening to M83 at the moment, so many hidden layers.

Their first album? Can imagine, next try it with open headphones - you'll be blown further. ;)
