In need of advice

Ok, i have been with iBurst for almost 3 years. I currently use the USB modem (not sure what its called) connected to my Mac laptop.
Internet on my side has been slower than slow and it keeps getting worst. I went onto speedtest.net to do a quick test on my internet connection and this is the result http://speedtest.net/result/1790966345.png
My connection grade came to an F-
So i am asking for anyones advice on how to increase my signal and get better internet connection overall. My USb modem does tend to cut the connection quite a few times. I do live in Pretoria East and the area i am in does have poor signal. So any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Cant go on like this.

I wouldn take any readings done this week to heart we all have had crap conections speeds thanks to EASSY fault.

as for the rest of the time try moving around the house looking for where the best sgnal is, maybe geting an external Antenna http://www.iburst.co.za/neuvo.aspx?link=get_hardware_antenna

Problem with Iburst is being wireless its best to leave the modem in one place where signal is constantly great, not alway the best place for you pc though :(
another option is to get a desktop modem and pair it up with a wireless router and the aerial so you can use your laptop any where in the house and still have optimal signal.

Is the desktop modem a better choice??? Or can i just get the antenna and connect it to the current modem i have???
Just wondering, the speed im getting.....is anyone else experiencing it???? This should be illegal as far as im concerned:sick:
I have moved my modem around constantly all over the show, best that i manage to get is around 70% according to iBurst's terminal.
What can be the expected gains out of the antenna???

comparing the modems is like comparing 6 to 1/2 a dozen, they all prety much the same speed wise (except for the 2Mpbs siver surfer). so geting an antenna will work fine for your usb modem.
As for gains depends on a few factors, how far from the base station, how much inteference from buildings etc, if you geting 70% you should push up to at least 90% (realy just guesing here)

Also, we need to clarify what your signal strength is showing as. If it's showing 100%, then I wouldn't fork out any cash an an external antenna, because what you're possibly dealing with isn't a signal issue, but instead a congested base tower. I use a USB modem and had excellent speeds first year withiBurst, second year it got worse and worse in spite of nothing having changed my side. Eventually Sean Green and another tecchie came through and helped me source a better tower. Speeds were never as good as they had been, but changing towers definitely helped.
 
Another problem that i am facing is my modem does disconnect quite often. Some days are good but most days it disconnects on its own. Any ideas on what the problem may be?

Not off-hand - others may know. I'm assuming it's a network issue, because some nights my connection is stable, other nights it also sommer decides to disconnect when it wants to.

That is a driver problem with Mac. Snow Leopard tends to disconnect often, but if you have OS X Lion installed, the Lion drivers works quite well

It could as well be. I was running Leopard before and i dont remember if the connection ever dropped. But currently running snow leopard and that seems to be the case. Any driver updates that might fix the problem??/
