Took out a mobile contract in-store on 26 Oct 2024.
Initial enquiry was to buy only mobile device based on the fact that the device price is included on the pamphlet and i thought that meant that it was option. in-store i was told that it is not. took the contract hoping i could get a family member to take the sim(i already have one). no luck.
returned 29 Oct 2024 to try and return the device and cancel the contract but told i need to come back after the first debit order came off in November and resubmit my request as an early contract cancellation request. Which is not what i want.
why is there no "cooling off" period??? is there another way to get out of this?
No copy of contract yet received.

Did you read the contract you signed to see the cool off period? It's normally on there

Cell C says that they will accept a full cancellation in the 1st 7 days from when the contract is started/device delivered.

To cancel you have to return the device in its sealed packaging to them.

It was all done online and no phyiscal contract was presented. i only received the soft copy yesterday. also asked in store clerk to get back to me about this but he never did.

Wait how did you do this online without signing something?

That is what i tried yesterday but instore people had no clue what to do. they ended up calling customer care who suggested i come back after first debit order:mad:

You must know what you were signing though - the question is what did that document state?
Nope. i was on one side of the counter and the Telkom person on the other. I did not see what he captured. I have since requested the contract and he completed the bare minimum, my signature was added via the LCD signature pad. even the contract itself states nothing about terms and conditions but rather references links on their website. i have read these and there is NO reference to a cooling off period.

You really have no idea? So you could have been signing an OTP for Nkandla and you'd be none the wiser?

Here's a simple explanation:

No direct marketing and you signed the contract in store, therefore no cooling-off period. Early cancellation is an option, but there will likely be penalties.

I find it unbelievable that people sign contracts without even seeing them, let alone reading them.
