It is official, Telkom suck *** sooo bad  .

On Jan 12 2006 we ordered a 384 line/account from Telskum.
We were told that our exchange was not supported, but should try anyway to help spped the process of upgrading and installing.

On April 2 2007 I checked the website, and found the exchange to have been upgraded, I subsequently phoned and was told that everything would be installed etc in 1 week.

They told me that ports have been allocated and I must just "sit and wait".

My question is this, how long should a "line connection" take for us to be connected?

I have been waiting for 1 1/2 years almost, with still no end in sight.

Does anyone have a contact, that deals with "line connections" ?

Any comment/help would be greatly assisted

I have a client who ordered her ADSL from Telkom. She waited 12 weeks and no service... but she still got a bill every month. On week 13 she received a warning phone call that if she didn't pay her outstanding account her service will be terminated... what service?

By week 14 her line was installed. This was only after a consult with her attornies. She however was still held liable for three months accounts and legal fees. Go figure.

Incredible.

Just last week my uncles from Canada and USA asked why we don't just get a 10mbp/s line and video conference with them

Anyways it just baffles me. Everyone just says " it's Africa time" to try explain their laziness.

Let's face it there is NO excuse for incompetence / laziness.

We should all just jump on a gravy train, and protest.

YEHAAAAAAAA !!!!:D

I joined a new Webcam service called Broadcaster.com... problem is my cam won't work with their software... they need a minimum of 512K uplink... recommend 1MB...???? I emailed them and they couldn't believe that SA still only has 256K when we are lucky... they reckon they have a bang load clients in central africa with 1MB if not 512K?

So ok guys, the main question.

How long should a person expect to wait, for a line connection to take place?

I have an Honours project demonstration on April 30, to London Met University.

If I can't stream it, I am in seriously deep S**T. :(

um... okay... seriously... I know we all through caution to wind... but I think you better come up with a contingency plan... what part of SA are you located in... if you near durban I can arrange for you to use my connection. You may need to pay for the bandwidth depending on how much you need to stream?

If you in another part of SA sure there will be someone here to help you out...

But telkom says that they will normally take 14-21 days... which blows?

Have you already ordered the line... do you already have the fixed line installed and just need the ADSL running? You can now do this yourself... let me know... cos I do this for my clients...

come to think of it... with telkom throwing caution to the wind is like farting in a hurricane...

I reside in Joburg. My main problem is using a consistent connection.

The app requires a constant 18KB/s throughput, so 56k won't do, neither will iBurst.

Thanks for the offer, but im gonna speak to IS, and/or Dimension Data if they willing to help (stream / video conf.).
Or maybe send a letter from the Varsity with my fees to Telkom?

um.. your chances are less than zero, and as for sending a mail or calling Telkom.... Good luck they may respond in about a month if youre lucky.

Your best bet would be to find a company such as IS or DD to help you out.

I still reckon letting a humble member in Joburg let you use their adsl line in the mean time... Telkom simply don't care... won't care... never will...

i've also had the same problem. They tell me the whole time, that a technician hasn't been assigned yet.

What is going on ? I've been phoning every day.

News flash. They just phoned me now, and asked me if i was ready for them to come to installation, but they haven't got a date yet. A technician will phone me.

The ominous call from telkom... that leaves you more distressed...

ICASA has now passed legislation that allows 3rd party companies to now do the installation instead of Telkom and their Contractors.

My company have already started a costing exercise. We currently offer line movement withing the same complex or building at R300 per line (Within a few days) and R450 per line (same day).

I will post pricing for ADSL installation once I have that information.
