[:(!]This is not SA ADSL problem this is a incompetent human error or systems error.
I got ADSL installed on the 25 November 2003, very excited about the whole deal even though it is such a bad option it is the best that we can get in this “Lovely 1st world country”.

Well was going well and on the 16th December 2003, the online Graph from Telkom ISP is giving me a N/A and I thought they are behind. Well this was constant throughout the month until yesterday my international bandwidth died, so I spoke to the support centre they say I am capped. Now on the 15th I only have transferred 560MB total according to the graph at 11h30 that evening, “I check every now and then before I sign-out to see how far am I in this limited cap.”
And the Graph still states N/A.

I see no hope for this service, but what else can you do if you need the connectivity, Sentech (BHWHAHAHAHAHAH) don’t make me laugh. We tried to do VSAT business with them (a country Wide Solution) it is now three months no calls form them.
I even phone them and they give a rubbish excuse and then ask for my number “again” and never call back.

Well I don’t think there is much to do about this but it out and wait the 2 days until the first and let Telkom rob me once again of my bandwidth.[?][?][?]

*When it comes to Refering from ISP to Technical i am holding on for the ISP, as i refuse to call support again in sorting the logs...... and now they tell me it is my browser that inserts the N/A not them. they also state that while i am not connected i download 400mb on that day??? well i am sure you had that before......... Just finished with the Service Provider, interesting comment he made… get another username in other words get another dial-up account the basic one that will cost you +/- R284 per month and you will have 6gig, just for those who got the bucks ……

Based on past experience I must admit I also have my reservations when it comes to Sentech ...

Mabey they'll surprise us all but I doubt it...

This has come up before on this site.

Maybe one of the moderators can make a sticky topic with a heading like "Read this first before getting ADSL!" and include some warnings in it.

Some points that could be included in the topic:
1. Don't trust the Telkom usage site. Use your own monitoring software as well.
2. Watch out for "rollover" on the last day of the month.
3. Anyone else want to add some?

I am also not very impressed with Telkom. The terms and conditions say that once you have reached your 3Gb limit you are movd to a slower link. Well if any of you have ever eached this limit you will understand that the link you are moved to barely works - in fact it took +- 3 mins for a page to load and via dial-up the same page loads in about 8 seconds. I contacted them regarding this problem and got through to a very rude individual who asked me why I wanted to visit internation sites - what a moronic question ! I did some test on local sites and downloaded ISO's of most linux distros from SAIX and IS ftp site no problem , quite fast in fatc. Now remembering that I am still over my limit the local bandwidth was not affected - cool ! Why then when I am under my 3Gb limit does local traffic add to my overall 3Gb limit ! The question then is will the balance over the 3Gb be added to my next months quota ? If so that is bollocks.
