Afternoon MyBroadband Users,

Recently I received a AARTO Traffic Infringement Notice for a fine stating that parked my car on the side of the road obstructing traffic on a certain street in PRETORIA. :wtf: apparently this happened in January!

Firstly I have never been to Pretoria and there is no need for me to even go there as I live in Joburg.
Secondly I cant remember what I as doing on that day in January but i definitly was no where near Pretoria.

How do I go about resolving this?
Anyone had a similiar issue?

Thank you

You didn't know where you were but you're certain you weren't in Pretoria?

That story will hold up in court.

100% ... The street name etc they refer to is in Pretoria and I definitly have no need to go there. Even if I did I rather take the gautrain.

But I would prefer to resolve this rather than wait till it reaches courts, so any ideas on how I would go about doing that?

And there is no pic in the notice....

Just got one myself, for a Chev sedan (that's what's in the picture) in Bloemfontein, I drive a Ford Figo. And I haven't been to Bloemfontein since 2007ish.

The numberplate differs by a number digit, so bad typing is the cause of me receiving it, should I just ignore?

I've just had to help a customer who was fined for speeding in Johannesburg almost at the exact time that he was handing his car over to me in Durban!!

Even Superman couldn't have picked the car up and flown it there!!

They do tend to make quite a few mistakes, and we are left with the hassle of trying to sort it out!

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think you may just ignore it if it's addressed to you. I think you need to go and sort it out.

and so with the number of e-toll transactions that occur daily you can imagine the number of errors of this type that occur. it's a pity that we the end users are the ones to correct everyone's errors. maybe you need to go get it sorted out ,hopefully it'll be easy

Go to Bloemfontein to sort out a persons finger troubles? (that will probably cost me a R1000, might as well just pay the other persons R200 fine then rather). They don't even have a e-mail address on the fine.

Do I have to go to a post office and buy a stamp and everything and sent them a letter and a pretty picture of my car? (I haven't sent a letter in a decade)

Don't even go there.... e-tolls *SPIT*

Wait until you get a court summons and then go to the clerk of the court and explain the story. If they still insist that you must pay the fine then demand a full hearing in front of a magistrate and tell them you are going to waste their time as much as you can if they insist on wasting your time.

I don't think it's necessary to involve the Bloem authorities. You would probably be able to sort it out at your local traffic department? If the number plate is wrong in the picture, it should be a quick fix.

Got a fine last month, same numberplate but the car in the picture was not the same car that I drove. Phoned the enquiries number attached to the fine and they said that they would sort it out and that is the last that I've heard of it. Perhaps just phone them?

I'll go check if there is a number on the fine at home...

I also had a fine for parking in the wrong direction in the Pretoria CBD. It had my licence disc number on it but no numberplate number, but the description of the vehicle was for a vehicle like mine.
I have not been in the centre of town for more than five years. I even had to look up the names of the streets where it apparently happened as they renamed the streets.
I took the fine and an affidavit to the traffic department and was informed to come back a week later to hear if the fine would be cancelled, only to hear that it can take a year or more for a decision.
Now they can go to hell.

Had the same with a taxi.

You're supposed to do some an affidavit as mentioned. It should get forwarded to the correct traffic department but that did nothing.

I was upset so I emailed the mayor - I got copied on an email to some traffic department chief and the fine was removed within the same morning.

Oh wait, is this not in Western Cape? :D
