To all you overclockers out there;

I have been playing around with increasing the CPU frequency by increasing the FSB speed. However I noticed upon boot (in the BIOS screen) that the RAM frequency has reduced from the usual DDR-1066 to DDR-802. Is this normal?:confused:

I basically upped the CPU FSB from 333 MHz to 400 MHz. I have an Intel E8500 with an ASUS P5Q Deluxe and OCZ HPC Reaper 2 x 2Gb DDR-1066 (is what the packaging says LOL:D)

Any thoughts?

Not an expert but thats because you have your RAM Frequency on Automatic... Which sticks to a 1:1 ratio...

So basically its your FSB x 2... Because its DDR2 (Ithink)

You can just change it to 1066 there is an option in the BIOS just below the CPU frequency and multiplier... This then forces it not to be 1:1... Some people believe it should be 1:1 for a better OC (I think) But mine is 5:3...

Q6600 (2.4Ghz stock) running at 3Ghz (333x999)

So my ram will run at 666... But my RAM is 1066... So I just force it to 1066 in the BIOS...

Thank you SlyFly your recommendation it did the trick!

Question 2 : I have taken the FS CPU up to 400, what is the safest maximum that I could go up to

Question 3 : Are there any recommended software for monitoring temps out there?

Real Temp
Core Temp
HW Monitor
Speedfan (nice for also controlling the speed of fans and noise levels)

Hopefully you have an aftermarket heatsink/fan... Then you can basically overclock aslong as your temps dont go over 75 (Just to be safe) In Prime95 (Tool that maxes out your CPU's, use it to test temps...) And aslong as it runs stable...
