I have the free Telkom branded Netgear Wireless router.

The signal is pretty poor - it's ok in the room it is in, bad in the room next door, and very very sporadic elsewhere in the house. I know that ideally connections should be line-of-sight, but my girlfriend will not allow the "ugly" router elsewhere in the house. We have a victorian with thick walls.

Can I boost the signal somehow? Would a bigger aerial (like this on Amazon) do the trick?

Or must I buy a booster router (if such a thing exists) and hide it so my g/f does not see it?

Ok this one is pretty easy !

1/ Paint 'flowers and hearts' on the router, maybe then she will let you move it ?
2/ Buy a high power router.
3/ The best option is to get a couple of 'Ethernet over power adaptors' one for the router and one for the PC, then every power outlet in the house becomes a LAN point and you can hide the router away as you dont need the wi-Fi side of it.

Cool - thanks, I'll look into that.

Strangely my phone manages the bad signal reasonably well, but my PC drops the connection all the time, so that should be a good solution.

Lose the girlfriend - if she wont allow you decent internet, she's not worth it ! :D

Second option, get a DLINK DWL2100 AP, and set it to 'repeater' mode in your roof
